WORKOUT 1 — BIKE
MTB ~ 90 minutes. Easy effort. Head to the trails. Get on some single track. Have fun. You can push to get up the steep parts of trail, but generally speaking the goal is fun.
Time: 2:24:16 Distance: 62 km
MTB is scheduled for service on Friday afternoon and I had an errand to run up in Sidney; TT bike for the win.
Swirling wind took me to my brother-in-law's house in 1:03:00. Thought I'd be in for a big headwind south but John Dean and Mount Work provided a wind shadow for the trip south.
First time riding Thompson Place; nice hill.
A paceline of 4 roadies blew by me at the Observatory; I gave chase. They slowed for a re-group at the northeend of Interurban and I passed them there.
That lead did not last long as 3 of 4 blew by me near Quayle Road. I pulled the 4th back up to his group near the Camosun Campus. A red light at Wilkinson Road allowed me to pass that crew once more.
I was super impressed at how quickly they could reel me in.
On the Goose, I stopped to assist one of that group unwedge his chain from between his frame and inner ring. There I learned that the 3 speedsters were 21, 22 and 24 years old; all more than half my age (the 4th had already headed home).
As hopeless as it was to hold their wheel, I had a lot of fun trying; they had fun in effort too.
