Racing is just one day.
It is a chance for me to measure my fitness, my mental fortitude and really, just to have some fun.
Below is a list of past events that I have entered.
2023 DATEV CHALLENGE ROTH
I was literally walking into the unknown.
Weeks of swimming without kicking, pushing off the wall with one foot. Riding the indoor trainer because I couldn't unclip in a hurry if I was outside. And walking, lot's of walking.
Roth was special.
2022 IRONMAN CANADA - PENTICTON
If I ever had a bucket list event to do, this was it. What a day for my second-ever IRONMAN.
A well paced swim, gave up time on the bike (QL) and then had maybe one of the fun runs in my life.
Penticton was awesome.
2021 IRONMAN Italy - Emilia Romagna
My first IRONMAN!
Tide assisted, wetsuit swim in the Adriatic before my longest bike ride ever by 40km. The last 40km in a thunderstorm, was a PR.
Comfortable jog for 19km, then maintained a huge smile through to the finish.
2023 XTERRA WHISTLER
My first off-road triathlon!
Lake was cool, the bike course was appropriate for my skillset and I found flow for the last kilometres of the run.
I'd like to do this race again.
|T1/T2||2:55 / 1:52|
2023 IRONMAN 70.3 - VICTORIA
My fastest 1900m swim on Elk Lake. I broke my 40 km PR and finished the bike ~11 minutes quicker than last year.
Then I turned my ego off and walked, a lot!
* The plan was to jog 50 minutes then walk.
|T1/T2||5:09 / 12:36|
2022 Victoria Half
Seven weeks after 70.3 Victoria, I did not improve the run despite a "healed" pinkie toe.
|T1/T2||4:48 / 3:32|
2022 IRONMAN 70.3 - Victoria
Broke my little toe before leaving the house.
|T1/T2||7:59 / 5:45|
2021 Victoria Half (virtual)
Like everything else in the world, COVID cancelled this race too. It was completed as a self-supported effort.
Pinnacle had the buoys out on the lake, I rode the 70.3 Victoria bike course and felt amazing on second lap of the lake.
2019 Victoria Marathon
The elation of taking 23 minutes off my personal best time and the heartbreak of being 11 seconds of saying I am under the four hour mark.
Solid run for me with a rough patch around the 38 km mark.
Offical Time: 4:00:10
2019 Calgary Marathon
Another fun event with my buddy Mike McD. I have never had my legs seize up so hard after anything in my entire life. I was patient through the first 24 kilometres but then I saw Mike on the his way back into town. He had about a kilometre and a half on me. I turned up the wick on my effort only to eventually blow up. It wasn't pretty.
Offical Time: 4:36:10
2018 Vancouver Marathon
Fun event with my buddy Mike McD. in Van for the race. This was not going to be my day and I knew it from the first kilometre. Even the down hill sections felt draining. I had high hopes for the day but really got smoked by hard reality.
Best part of the day was seeing Carina and my Dad near the start of the finishing chute.
Offical Time: 4:36:10
2017 Victoria Marathon
This was a bucket list event that I never knew was on the list until this past April. Everybody's advice was to go slow and enjoy the moment; I did just that.
Every step beyond Oak Bay Village (32 kms) was a fortification of my person. I wept with elation after crossing the finish.
Offical Time: 4:23:10
